Yoga exercise and worship

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church invites everyone to gain strength and flexibility, relieve aches and pains and shed pounds while performing yoga moves to Christian worship music in a six-week session taught by Doris Dodge-Thews. Dodge-Thews, a master trainer for top fitness brands, runs her own personal training company and teaches fitness classes across Orange County. Participants should bring a yoga mat, towel and water bottle. A $3 donation per class is suggested.

Classes will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesdays, from Sept. 15 to Oct. 20 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Guild Hall (located behind the church), 428 Park Ave., Laguna Beach. Parking is available in the upper parking lot.

Bourgeault series at St. Mary’s

Cynthia Bourgeault will lead a series of lectures and workshops titled “Centering Prayer and Inner Awakening” from Sept. 22 to Sept. 24 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.

Bourgeault is an Episcopal priest who leads lectures, workshops and retreats across the U.S. She is the author of “Mystical Hope,” “The Wisdom Jesus” and “Centering Prayer and Inner Awakening,” among other books.

From 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 22, Bourgeault will discuss her newest book, “The Meaning of Mary Magdalene.” There is no charge and reservations are not required.

On Sept. 23, Bourgeault will lead a seminar in the wisdom practices to see with the eyes of Christ. The morning session will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. An afternoon session will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. The evening session is from 7 to 9 p.m. Lunch will be served on the grounds. A $50 fee covers all sessions and includes lunch. Reservations are required by calling (949) 494-3542.

From 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 24, Bourgeault leads a lectio divina experience and centering prayer. There is no charge, and reservations are not required.
