Organizers of the Laguna Beach Relay for Life, held Aug. 14 to 15 at El Morro Elementary School, are pleased with the funds raised during the 24-hour relay walk.

During the event, survivors walked the course holding balloons with the number of years they had been a cancer survivor, led by bagpiper Ian Greene. Young cancer survivor Hannah Thomas was crowned the Relay’s Princess by Laguna Beach Mayor Elizabeth Pearson.

Other participants walked to support family and friends who had battled the disease and raise funds for cancer research. The event has so far netted more than $56,000, according to Lauren Harris of the American Cancer Society.
