Firefighters, helicopter rescue mountain biker

Laguna Beach firefighters rescued a mountain biker who crashed while racing down the Telonics Bike Trail, near Alta Laguna Park, on Saturday, according to a news release from the Fire Department.

Another biker found the injured person and called 911 at 10:02 a.m. Saturday.

Once on scene, firefighters had to hike down the trailhead to reach the victim. Due to the victim’s injuries and the terrain of the area, an Orange County Fire Authority helicopter was requested to airlift the victim to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo.

The biker suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Man arrested for alleged robbery on bus

A San Clemente man was arrested on suspicion of robbery in the 300 block of Broadway on Sunday.

Steven Forrest Oliver was held on $100,000 bail after allegedly, on while on a bus headed to Laguna Beach, hitting a man and stealing his backpack.

A person witnessed Oliver trying to steal the victim’s backpack, which Oliver successfully accomplished after slapping the victim.

The witness confronted Oliver after he disembarked the bus in on Broadway. A police officer observed the dispute and stopped to investigate.

Oliver was originally reported to have committed misdemeanor battery, but the charge was upgraded to robbery after the officer learned that the backpack was stolen.
