Laguna to host lawn bowling tournament
The finals of the U.S. Open Lawn Bowls Tournament will be held Sept. 14 in Heisler Park.
International players will be competing, starting at 8:30 a.m. and concluding about 5:30 p.m., at which time medals will be presented by Mayor Jane Egly at a cocktail party.
“Players will be coming to Laguna from around the world,” Egly said. “This is a big deal.”
Men and women will compete in singles, pairs and teams of four.
In order to be recognized by the World Bowls Assn., the City Council agreed at the July 27 meeting to reserve 12 metered parking spaces near the city’s lawn bowling green on Cliff Drive and waive the fees.
A trolley is expected to shuttle players and spectators from the Pavilions rooftop parking to the green and back every half hour.
