Driver extricated from car after crash

A driver was extricated from a car involved in a collision at Glenneyre Street and Mountain Road on Wednesday morning, according to Laguna Beach Fire Department.

Laguna Beach firefighters responded to a call at 8:22 a.m. about a two-car crash, with one vehicle on its side and the driver trapped inside.

Firefighters stabilized the car and were able to remove the driver through the roof.

Two people were treated for injuries. One was in serious condition and taken to Mission Hospital Mission Viejo. The other refused further treatment and was released.

Division Chief Dan Stefano said the rollover driver’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Maid arrested in alleged grand theft

A maid was arrested after allegedly being caught in the act of stealing property at the Surf and Sand Hotel on Tuesday.

Yaneli Mendez, 28, of San Juan Capistrano was taken into custody at 4:14 p.m. on suspicion of grand theft for allegedly stealing jewelry from a guest’s bedroom.

The jewelry was placed in the room in order to catch the suspect, according to the Laguna Beach Police Department dispatch log.

Another pay station damaged in theft

A pay station in the 400 block of Glenneyre Street was broken into early Sunday morning, resulting in machine damage and a loss of $225 in cash, according to the Laguna Beach police dispatch log.

The machine was reported as vandalized at 5:45 a.m. The damage is estimated at $11,000. Police believe the money was taken at 2:59 a.m.

This is the third in a series of similar incidents in the last two weeks, according to the dispatch log. Exactly a week prior, on July 17, a suspect vandalized and stole cash from two machines resulting in $24,000 in damages.

Police are requesting extra patrols of the area.
