Skateboard regulations proposed

The Parking/Traffic/Circulation Committee is considering a request to restrict the use and speed of skateboards, according to City Manager Ken Frank in his Friday Update of June 18. The committee has formed a subcommittee to study the issue, and was to consider the proposal on Thursday, but the item was posponed to the committee’s July 22 meeting because of Laguna Beach High School graduation on that day.

HAMS hold Field Day

Local amateur radio operators, or HAMS, will participate in a nationwide event demonstrating emergency communications on Saturday and Sunday on the fire road north of Moulton Meadows Park.

This will be the 12th annual Field Day event for the Laguna Beach Emergency Communications Team, said Chief Radio Officer John Kountz. This activity begins at 11 a.m. Saturday and ends at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Participants will be using solar power, batteries and temporary antennas.

The public and all federally licensed radio amateurs are invited to participate. The event is free.

Fireworks fully funded

Realtor Michael Gosselin presented a check to city officials at the June 15 City Council meeting for $15,477, which brings the total donations to $25,000 for the 2010 fireworks.

Gosselin said the Laguna Board of Realtors had raised another $14.000, including a $10,000 donation from Tommy Bahama and was willing to give $12,500 to the city if the council agreed to match it for next year’s show.
