Applications due Tuesday for disaster committee
Tuesday is the deadline to for applications for a seat on the city’s new Emergency Disaster Preparedness Committee.
The committee will advise the City Council on how the city can be ready to cope in a crisis.
Applicants will be interviewed at the June 21 council meeting, after which appointments will be made. Four members will be appointed for two-year terms and three members to one-year terms to establish future staggered appointments. Unlike other city committees, Emerald Bay residents are eligible.
“I believe it is essential for us to be ahead of the curve on disaster preparedness so we are ready for the next emergency or crisis,” said committee co-Chairwoman Councilwoman Elizabeth Pearson.
The committee will provide a forum for residents, businesses and service providers to offer input on what they can do to prepare for a disaster; research funding; work with the Relief and Resource Center to maintain an updated list of assistance groups or individuals; provide the council and city departments with a list of local resources like super markets, pharmacies, hardware, building supply and large nonprofit organizations, that can help in a disaster.
Applications are available at the city clerk’s office in City Hall or on https://www.lagunabeachcity.net and click on Boards & Commissions — Applications.
