Memorial planned for water commissioner

The Laguna Beach County Water District is hosting a celebration of life for Susan Tregar, a 10-year water commissioner and long-time Laguna Beach resident, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. June 9 at Tivoli Terrace, 650 Laguna Canyon Road, according to a news release.

Parking is complimentary of the city in the city lot across the street from the festival grounds in space Nos. 300 and higher. Appetizers, coffee, soft drinks and water will be served along with a no-host bar. Speakers are asked to limit their comments to three minutes or less.

American Legion installs new officers

American Legion Laguna Beach Post 222 and the ladies Auxiliary installed post officers May 12 to serve during the 2011-12 year, according to a news release.

Orange County District 29 Vice Commander Bill Sandlin assisted with the installation services. Frank Daniel will serve again as commander with Bob McIntosh, first vice commander; Dave Connell, second vice commander; Richard Moore, adjutant-treasurer; Don Hurlbut, sergeant at arms; Norm Abbod, chaplain; Dean Petersen, judge advocate; and Dave Connell Jr., past commander.

For the Auxiliary Unit, Diane Connell was named president; Sandi Werthe, vice president; Jean Law, secretary-treasurer; Elizabeth Tomlin, chaplain, not attending; and Toni Abbod sergeant at arms.

American Legion, VFW to conduct Memorial Day ceremony

Laguna Beach American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars veterans will conduct its 83rd Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. May 30 in remembrance of all their comrades who died in all the wars and conflicts protecting our country, according to a news release.

Due to construction at Heisler Park, this year the ceremony will take place at Legion Hall, 384 Legion St. Assemblyman Don Wagner (R-Irvine) will give the address.

Docents needed

The Laguna Ocean Foundation’s tidewater docent program is looking for new volunteers.

Qualified individuals must attend one formal training session and accompany a professional educator for on-the-job training. The next training session is at 6:30 p.m. June 2 at the Ocean Institute, Dana Point.

The foundation educates the public about the protecting local beaches. Docents spend time at Crescent Bay, Shaw’s Cove, Heisler Park, Wood’s Cove, Goff Island and Treasure Island teaching visitors about the organisms, ecology and regulations of the city’s marine-protected areas.
