School Board Meeting Wrap-Up
The following is from the Laguna Beach School District’s meeting May 10.

Employees recognized for service
Principals from Laguna Beach High School, Thurston Middle School, Top of the World and El Morro elementary schools recognized classified employees for their extended service to the district, some lending as many as 20 years.
Kris Hammerquist was honored as employee of t he year by the district and TOW Principal Ron LaMotte. LaMotte gathered positive quotes from staff and revealed it to Hammerquist, who got teary-eyed hearing accolades of her service as administrative assistant to the principal.

PAL Program to be lauded
Thurston’s PAL program will be recognized at Chapman University on May 24. Peer Assistance Leadership has been training the elementary schools for the program and has been a sustainable program, a school official said during the meeting.

AP test is over … then what?
Board member Jan Vickers asked LBHS Principal Don Austin what students will do with their spare class time after AP testing.
Vickers suggested that past classes did a project. Austin said they’re considering different options right now to optimize the remainder of their semester.
