Just say no to underage drinking
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Laguna Beach, in conjunction with the South Orange County Coalition, will participate in a community alcohol prevention activity called Sticker Shock at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The event — in which youth will visit off-sale alcohol outlets (retailers that sell alcohol for consumption outside of their stores) and place prevention message stickers on alcohol multi-packs — aims to remind buyers that it is illegal to provide alcohol to anyone younger than 21, according to a news release. The stickers are also a reminder that purchasers must be at least 21 to buy alcohol.
The caravan will begin at the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach, 1085 Laguna Canyon Road.
“On behalf of NCADD-OC, the South Orange County Coalition, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Laguna Beach, I commend the participating establishments who are helping to prevent and reduce underage drinking in the city of Newport Beach,” Gwen Drenick, director of National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence — Orange County, said in a statement. “Many thanks go out to the youth from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Laguna Beach that are invested in reducing underage drinking in their community.”
The activity originally stemmed from Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
