Experts to discuss water supply

A panel of water experts will discuss the future of Laguna Beach’s water supply at a March 30 meeting.

The evening will include discussion from Renae Hinchey, general manager of the Laguna Beach County Water District; Mike Dunbar, general manager of South Coast Water District; and David Shissler, director of water quality for Laguna Beach.

They will talk about ways the city could provide new sources of water and how to make better use of the water the city currently gets, according to a news release.

The public is invited to come and present their own ideas and comments.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in City Council Chambers, 505 Forest Ave.

Parking structure renovation begins

Renovation of the Glenneyre parking structure was set to begin this week.

The project includes installing a new shear wall and fiber wrapping the support columns, according to the weekly update from City Manager John Pietig.

The work is expected to be finished by the end of May.

During construction, as many as five parking spaces will be reserved for equipment and tools related to the project. There may be occasional alley and lane closures on Glenneyre, but trash and delivery service will not be affected.

AAUW—LB offers up grant money

The American Association of University Women — Laguna Beach Foundation is accepting grant applications from local nonprofits.

This year, the chapter will award more than $22,000 in grants and scholarships, according to a news release. Grants will be between $200 and $1,000 each.

The money should go toward programs that educate or provide for the needs of women or young girls. All applicants must be from community-based nonprofits.

Last year, grants were given to Sally’s Fund, the Community Clinic, Boys & Girls Club, the Woman’s Club, La Playa Center, Helping Hands Worldwide, The Seed Business Network, Laguna Beach Live! and The Learning Center at El Morro Elementary School.

Applications are at https://www.aauw-lagunabeach.org. The deadline to apply is April 30.

Applicants sought for committee

There are two seats available on the city’s Parking, Traffic & Circulation Committee, and interested residents have until March 28 to apply.

The two-year terms will run through Feb. 28, 2014.

The committee advises on issues relating to transit, traffic, parking, circulation and traffic complaints. The group meets on the fourth Thursday of the month.

The City Council will interview all applicants at 6 p.m. April 3 at its regular meeting in City Council Chambers, 505 Forest Ave.
