‘Sound of Music’ to hit Artists’ Theatre

The Artists’ Theatre will be alive with “The Sound of Music,” starting March 16.

Laguna Beach High School students will present the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, which tells the story of Maria von Trapp, a woman who leaves the convent to become governess to Capt. von Trapp’s seven children right before the Nazi annexation of Austria, according to a news release.

“The show’s memorable score and historic setting make it an important piece of literature,” director Mark Dressler said in a statement. “This play is romantic, comedic and exciting because it explores familiar issues of vocation, love, loyalty, and coming-of-age against the backdrop of a critical time in world history.”

The production includes cast members from not only LBHS but the elementary and middle schools as well, according to parent volunteer Tad Heitmann. There are even two cameos from faculty members. More than 100 young performers tried out for the three younger roles.

Tickets are $10 for students, $15 for adults, and $20 gets you premium reserved seating.
