Man accused of obtaining marijuana for sales purposes

A Laguna Beach man was arrested on suspicion of using a medical marijuana prescription for the purpose of selling marijuana at 2:59 p.m. Feb. 24 in the 300 block of Third Street, according to Sgt. Louise Callus.

Ross Earl Embry, 61, was under investigation and detectives had served a search warrant at his home, leading to his arrest, Callus said. Embry was held in Orange County Jail on $20,000 bond.

Woman accused of taking plants

A man accused his neighbor of absconding with 10 to 15 plants, including orchids, ginger plants and bromeliads, that were growing in his yard in the 200 block of Cypress Drive, Callus stated. The report was made at 1:59 p.m. Feb. 25. The neighbor told police that some plants were taken because she believed they were on her property, Callus stated. Some of the plants have been recovered by the owner. The plants were valued at $500.

Pair held in heroin possession case

A man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of possessing heroin after police stopped their vehicle at Canyon Acres Drive and Laguna Canyon Road at 11:18 p.m. Feb. 25, Callus stated.

Joshua Evenryan Ross, 23, of Costa Mesa, was allegedly observed by police placing an object under his leg, and police also allegedly saw a heroin-filled syringe protrude from his pocket.

During an investigation, police alleged that Ross had $900 in bills, a scale, heroin and syringes in his possession, and arrested him on suspicion of possessing heroin for sale.

His passenger, Page Corrine Warren, 22, was arrested on suspicion of heroin possession.

Ross was held at Orange County Jail on $45,000 bail; Warren was held on $20,000 bail.

Falcon lands at supermarket

Police were called when a falcon with bound-and-tethered feet landed at Albertsons in the 30000 block of Coast Highway at 2:12 p.m. Saturday, according to police records. Police determined that the falcon was employed by the Montage Resort Laguna to scare away pigeons and gulls. The falconer was called to retrieve the bird, which was reported to be unharmed, according to the records.

Molotov cocktail destroyed

Laguna Beach police disposed of a Molotov cocktail found at a home in the 1000 block of Santa Ana Street at 8:26 a.m. Tuesday, Callus stated. Police do not know how long the bomb, which had not been lit, had been at the location. There are no suspects, and there were no injuries related to the incident, she added.

Extortion scam via e-mail reported

A Laguna Beach woman reported that she received an e-mail threatening to reveal personal financial information unless she paid the sender $200, Callus said. Police believe the scam originated outside the country. The victim did not send the money.

Rugs reported stolen from merchant

A rug merchant in the 200 block of Ocean Avenue reported that 11 rugs totaling $89,000 have been stolen from a storage room within the business, Callus said.

The business was flooded in the Dec. 22 storm that inundated downtown Laguna Beach. The owner said he hired about 30 temporary employees to assist with cleaning the rugs in the business. Between that time and when the theft was reported, 2:23 p.m. Tuesday, 11 rugs were reported removed from the storage room without his permission, Callus stated.
