St. Mary’s gets support from Hausman Family Foundation

St. Mary’s School in Aliso Viejo now has a classroom equipped with iPads and new desktop computers, thanks to a generous gift from the Hausman Family Foundation.

The foundation’s gift of $80,000 over three years will be matched by the Center for Learning in Irvine, according to a news release. The money will go to hardware and software for the classroom and full-time educational coordinators for three years.

The Hausman Family Foundation was established to help children with special needs with an emphasis in education. John Hausman, a diagnosed dyslexic, recently toured the new classroom and admired the new teaching tools available now that weren’t offered when he was in elementary school.

“In those days it was all flash cards, paper-based work and endless repetition,” Hausman said in a statement. “Now, technology is a tremendous enabler for all kinds of students to aid the learning process.”

Author holds book signing in Aliso Viejo

An Orange County author will hold a book signing event in Aliso Viejo on Feb. 24.

Laguna Woods resident Paula Rose, author of “Casa de Naomi: The House of Blessing — Book 1,” will be at Aliso Viejo Donuts and Coffee, 27782 Aliso Creek Road, from 6 a.m. to noon.

Her book is about 15-year-old Naomi and her “journey from adolescence to womanhood, from frightened isolation and captivity to the noble status of heiress with a mission and responsibility many would shirk placed upon her shoulders.”
