Car strikes pole on Laguna Canyon Road

Laguna Canyon Road was reopened Wednesday morning after a car crash caused its closure Tuesday night.

The road was closed in both directions from 9 p.m. Tuesday to about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday after a van struck a pole on the side of the road and knocked it over.

The driver, Sloane Violet Friedmann, 18, was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs, Lt. Jason Kravetz said in a statement.

The damaged pole belonged to Verizon, and crews arrived at 2:30 a.m. to repair it. They requested that both lanes remain closed during the repairs since the pole was unstable and it connected lines that crossed the road, Kravetz said.

Laguna Canyon Road’s closure stretched from Canyon Acres to El Toro. Repairs were completed at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday.
