Man evades police after suspicious person call

An unidentified white male eluded Laguna Beach police officers during a search Monday afternoon in the 1700 block of Thurston Drive.

Officers responded to a call of a suspicious person at 2:50 p.m., Sgt. Louise Callus wrote in an e-mail. As officers arrived, a white male was seen trying to hide against a planter in the driveway of one of the homes. The man, described as 6 feet tall, bald and wearing jeans and a black T-shirt, got up and jumped over a fence, evading officers.

Huntington Beach police brought in a helicopter to scour the area, but the man got away.

Police cannot confirm the man is a suspect in any burglary in Laguna, Callus said.

Shop owner selling alcohol without a license

The owner of Thalia Surf Shop along Coast Highway was cited and released for alcohol being provided without a license, Laguna Beach police said.

Officers responded to a report of employees allegedly providing beer to juveniles in the 900 block shortly before 8:30 p.m. Jan. 22. Laguna Beach Fire Department responded to the scene to address the overcrowding.

Nicholas James Cocores, 35, of Laguna Beach, was cited for a misdemeanor of providing alcohol from a business without a license, Callus wrote in an e-mail.

An e-mail sent to Cocores on Thursday was not returned.

One 18-year-old also was cited for possessing alcohol, Callus said.
