Laguna Beach resident Tom Tapscott passed away peacefully at his home on November 26, at the age of 82. Tom graduated from Santa Ana High School, and obtained a bachelor of science degree from UCLA. He served in the U.S. Navy, in the Korean War, and owned his own trucking company, Husky Freightways, in Los Angeles, from 1956, until 1980, when he retired. He lived in Salmon, Idaho, and then returned to California, ultimately moving to Laguna Beach in 2006. Tom was a regular at the Zinc and Sapphire, was an avid fisherman, and spent his spare time making jewelry and metal sculptures. A gentle man with an uncommonly cheerful disposition, Tom will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends, including his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Linda Tapscott, son Mark Tapscott, all of Bend, Oregon, son Mathew Tapscott of Palm Springs, sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Jerry Carr of Manchester Center, Vermont, and Barbara Hamilton of Laguna Beach, as well as his dog, Misty.
