Ocean View High Seahawks soar into graduation
Ocean View High graduate Daycie McCafferty used a quote from the late basketball star Kobe Bryant during her speech at the school’s graduation ceremony Wednesday.
“Dedication sees dreams come true,” said McCafferty, the school’s senior class president. McCafferty saw this Class of 2022 as very dedicated, having spent the majority of their high school tenure during the coronavirus pandemic.
“We have seen each other through screens, masks and now finally, I am able to see all of the beautiful faces I walked into Ocean View with that first day of school,” she said.
Ocean View celebrated its 301 graduates from the Class of 2022 in an on-campus commencement ceremony.
Natalie Camacho, Jacob Singer and Alex Valdivia performed the national anthem on trumpets. Graduates also heard from senior senate speakers Sofia Manley and Regan Preciado, as well as senior speakers Kallista Driggs, Benjamin Linza and Anaya Patterson.
John Volo was the staff speaker, while senior choir member Jaidan Ross performed the school’s alma mater.
Erica Quintero and athletic director Tim Walsh took turns announcing each graduate, before second-year principal Robert Rasmussen presented the Class of 2022.
