Pedestrian killed after being struck by vehicle in Fountain Valley

A Costa Mesa pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle late Sunday night in Fountain Valley, authorities said.

The victim, a 57-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.

Fountain Valley police said the fatal traffic collision involved a silver 2002 Honda Civic. Officers responded to the incident near the intersection of Warner Avenue and San Ricardo Street, on the south side of Mile Square Park, at about 10:37 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle cooperated with investigators at the scene. Authorities did not believe that alcohol or drugs had played a role in the accident, according to a news release issued Monday by Fountain Valley police officials.

The department is encouraging anyone who witnessed the collision to call the traffic bureau at (714) 593-4481.
