Newport Coast woman dies in fiery traffic collision

A Newport Coast woman died Sunday night in a two-car collision near Newport Ridge Drive and San Joaquin Hills Road, according to law enforcement officials.

Officers responded to reports of a collision in the area at 8:08 p.m. and found one vehicle in flames. Two male juvenile occupants of one car were located outside of the vehicle and were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police also found an unresponsive woman who had been in the second vehicle and attempted life-saving measures, but the woman was declared dead at the scene. Police did not immediately respond to an inquiry if the woman was located inside or outside of her vehicle on their arrival.

The woman was identified by the Orange County Coroner’s Office as Donna Wildrick, age 60.

Neither of the juveniles has been identified due to their ages.

City News Service reported that a dog also died in the crash.

Department spokeswoman Heather Rangel said the two vehicles involved in the collision were a BMW and a Tesla. The collision remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call (949) 644-3742.
