Newport Harbor High School’s Sailors to say ‘Ahoy!’ to their futures
On a cloudy, windy day in Davidson Field, the graduating class of Newport Harbor High School said their farewells to the campus that taught and nurtured them the last four years.
This is the 91st graduating class since the high school was founded in 1930. Making their way across the field, students wearing navy blue robes cheered and shouted along as names of friends’ were read aloud. Families applauded from the stands as the Newport Harbor High School band played “Pomp and Circumstance.”
Some deftly wielded airhorns.
Online, families offered their congratulations as each of the 550 estimated students graduating this year passed by the cameras.
Student speakers included Parker Smith, Mason Hunt and Emmitt Butler. An address was also delivered by faculty speaker Amy Caulfield. The class was received by district Board of Trustees President Michelle Barto, who represents Trustee Area 5.
“May all your journeys be safe; may your discoveries be bountiful; may your lives be blessed by love of family and friends and may the tides of destiny carry you to uncharted and unimagined success just like this school year,” said Principal Sean Boulton in his remarks.
“Thank you, class of ‘22. I love you all. Congratulations, and as always, go Sailors!”
