Huntington Beach police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a driver who struck and killed a pedestrian during a collision early Wednesday morning on Edinger Avenue and then fled the scene.

HBPD spokeswoman Jennifer Carey said officers were called to the scene on Edinger east of Springdale Street shortly before 3:45 a.m. about a possible hit-and-run incident involving a single vehicle and a pedestrian. At the location, they discovered the body of a woman, whose age and housing status could not immediately be determined.

It is believed the driver of the vehicle, after striking the woman, fled westbound on Edinger Avenue. Officers closed the roadway down in both directions until 11 a.m. to scour the scene for evidence and were searching for nearby video surveillance cameras that may have captured footage of what happened, Carey reported Wednesday.

The incident marks the second fatal hit-and-run collision in Huntington Beach this week. Chillandra Dalanalea Bell, 26, of Victorville, was arrested Monday after a vehicle she was reportedly driving struck and killed a 48-year-old woman from Hemet and critically injured her 50-year-old husband, who were in a crosswalk Sunday night at the time of the incident.

In that case, police tracked Bell to a Huntington Beach residence and arrested her as she attempted to leave the property.

Anyone who may have witnessed the Wednesday morning collision or the events leading up to or following it is encouraged to contact HBPD Traffic Investigator Doug Demetre at (714) 536-5670 or Investigator Vishal Rattanchandani at (714) 536-5663.
