Ken Domer has been hired as the new assistant city manager of Laguna Beach, it was announced Thursday evening.

The appointment comes after Shohreh Dupuis was promoted and became the city’s top executive, succeeding the retired John Pietig as Laguna Beach’s city manager.

Domer will start in the new role beginning Monday. He comes with more than 30 years of experience in state, county and municipal government, including 15 years of working in city management.

Most recently, Domer served as city manager for Fullerton, but he was voted out of the position on a 3-2 decision by the Fullerton City Council in April. He had served in the role since July of 2017.

“I look forward to serving the residents and visitors of the city of Laguna Beach as assistant city manager, and I am particularly excited to work together with such a capable city team,” Domer said in a statement. “It will be our collective efforts that will allow us to achieve the goals set forth by the City Council. The chance to serve such a beautiful community in a place my family has enjoyed visiting for years makes me especially grateful to have been chosen for this role.”

Domer and his wife, who live in Orange, have three daughters.

Other roles that Domer has held in city management include serving as city manager of Villa Park and as assistant city manager of Huntington Beach. He also was an assistant city administrator in Placentia.

“Ken’s extensive experience providing day-to-day leadership of city operations of full-service cities, along with his ability and experience in addressing challenges of coastal communities, set him apart from other candidates,” Dupuis said. “I look forward to bringing him on board and working with him in this critical role to enhance our delivery of services, leverage technology to modernize our processes, and introduce greater efficiencies into our ongoing city operations.”
