Edison High class of 2021 charged up about graduation
Edison High School receptionist Virginia Turner retired this year after 33 years with the Chargers.
But Turner, known as the “Voice of Edison” and for saying “Gooooo Chargers,” didn’t miss Thursday’s graduation ceremony for the class of 2021 at Cap Sheue Field on the Huntington Beach High campus.
Turner was a special guest at the commencement exercises, during which 526 Chargers got their diploma.
Student speakers included ASB president Liam Ryder — who served as the emcee of the ceremony — as well as Grant Gillinger and London Rakhshani. Edison history teacher Chris DeStefano was voted by the students to serve as staff speaker, while senior class reps Ella Marcus and Mackenna Walton had the honor of being name-callers.
Edison Principal Jennifer Graves said in an email that she was proud of all of the graduates.
“What a year this has been,” Graves said. “The class of 2021 has been through so much and persevered through many obstacles and challenges. We are so proud of them and are happy we can give them a graduation ceremony where they can be together one last time as a class to celebrate.”
