Newport-Mesa Family YMCA reopens its doors

With Orange County having reached a less restrictive tier in the state reopening guidelines, the YMCA of Orange County is opening the doors of its branch gyms in Huntington Beach, Mission Viejo, Laguna Niguel, Newport Mesa and Fullerton.

“It’s great to be able to welcome our members back inside. We have been preparing for reopenings by upgrading Y gym lobbies and making changes for an enhanced member experience,” Dolores Daly, chief operating officer of YMCA OC, said in a statement.

Orange County reentered the red tier on March 18 and, as of Wednesday, entered the orange tier. Gyms are now allowed to reopen indoor capacities to 25% and can allow use of their indoor pools.

Masks are required while moving through the facility. Social distancing is required. The facilities also perform temperature checks and sanitize equipment after each use.

The gyms operate on a reservation system.

“Our team has been anticipating this reopening, and we have worked so hard to make the YMCA gyms a safe place for our longtime and new members,” said Newport-Mesa Family YMCA program director Kendra Crusco. “The energy in the gym is beginning to feel ‘normal’ again.”
