A man who was found in the tide at Huntington State Beach on Tuesday morning has been identified.

The Orange County coroner’s office identified the man as Kevin Bechtold, 36, of Garden Grove. Bechtold was found floating in the tide at 4:58 a.m. Tuesday, according to the coroner’s report. The apparent cause of death was drowning.

Bechtold was the second person found dead on the beach in Huntington Beach in two weeks due to suspected drowning. Dylan Duong, 25, was found offshore on the morning of Aug. 25 near the Huntington Beach Pier.

The soonest Orange County can reopen most of its schools for in-person learning is Sept. 22. The county is listed on the worst level in California’s new four-color, tiered monitoring system for COVID-19.
