Coronavirus cases, tests administered spike in Orange County

More than 200 new coronavirus cases were reported over the weekend in Orange County, according to the county health care agency.

Monday’s totals were of 2,126 confirmed cases to date, including deaths. Orange County had 123 new cases on Saturday — a one-day record for the county — and 105 on Sunday, which is the second-highest daily total. Officials reported 54 new cases on Monday.

No new fatalities were reported on Monday, leaving the county death count at 39 to date due to COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus.

Testing for the virus also has significantly increased in Orange County. The OC Health Care Agency reported that 2,267 tests were administered on Sunday, which is the easily the most for a single day during the pandemic. There were 795 tests administered on Monday.

Overall, 26,347 people have been tested in Orange County by HCA public health label and commercial labs.

Last week, the agency began the OC COVID-19 Testing Network, with six clinics at launch. There is no out-of-pocket cost to the patient, though insurance may be billed. Appointments are required. More information is available at occovid19.ochealthinfo.com.

There are 157 cases of the coronavirus hospitalized in Orange County as of Monday, with 62 of those in the intensive-care unit.

• Anaheim: 289 (8 cases per 10,000 residents)
• Santa Ana: 306 (9.1 cases per 10,000 residents)
• Huntington Beach: 183 (9 cases per 10,000 residents)
• Irvine: 127 (4.5 cases per 10,000 residents)
• Newport Beach: 96 (11 cases per 10,000 residents)
• Laguna Beach: 36 (15.4 cases per 10,000 residents)
• Costa Mesa: 37 (3.2 cases per 10,000 residents)
• Fountain Valley: 29 (5.1 cases per 10,000 residents)
