A man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and speeding after a hit-and-run collision Wednesday night near the Back Bay in Newport Beach.

According to a witness, an Infiniti sedan occupied by three people rear-ended a parked BMW on Polaris Drive near Evening Star Lane at about 9:45 p.m., and the driver allegedly attempted to leave the scene but was stopped by witnesses.

Newport Beach police say Brandon Alonzo Townend of Costa Mesa was arrested in the area of the collision on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a license, unsafe speed and hit-and-run with property damage.
