Laguna Playhouse giving free tickets as a thank you to workers providing essential services

While the Laguna Playhouse, like all other local theaters, has shut its doors because of the coronavirus pandemic, its officials want to show their appreciation for workers performing essential services to help others during the crisis.

They include grocery store workers, gas station attendants, healthcare workers, law enforcement, court employees, fire personnel, postal clerks and hardware store employees.

The “community service heroes” will be receiving free tickets to playhouse performances once things have returned to normal.

“You are our heroes and we want to say thank you,” said Ellen Richard, executive director of the Laguna theater, which recently announced the schedule for the 2020-21 season, its 100th. The season is slated to open July 22 with the musical version of “Legally Blonde.”

“Every day these incredible people are giving us hope in humanity,” Richard said. “They put themselves and their families at risk to serve the entire community. ... These are true heroes who are showing up every day to help all of us during this unprecedented crisis.”

She noted that the playhouse has been doing its part as well, delivering N95 face masks, hand sanitizer and gloves to local hospitals. The theater’s costume department is busy sewing masks.

“We will be back performing again when it is safe to gather,” she said.
