Coast college district closes facilities amid possible COVID-19 case at Orange Coast College
The Coast Community College District — which includes Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, Golden West College in Huntington Beach and Coastline College in Fountain Valley — closed to faculty, management and staff after officials learned of a possible case of COVID-19 at OCC, according to an email sent to employees Monday evening.
The email from the district’s public affairs office noted that the Orange Coast College case was suspected but unconfirmed. The college has contacted people potentially exposed to the risk, the email said.
The decision to close district facilities came less than 24 hours after the district announced it would call off classes this week in preparation for putting them online later this month.
The district said Sunday night that it was canceling all classes, including online, through Friday to give faculty more time to be trained and prepare for a previously announced transition to all online instruction spurred by concerns about the coronavirus that causes the COVID-19 respiratory disease.
Until Monday night, certain staff and management were still expected to report to work.
