City of Hope to open Newport cancer clinic

City of Hope is expanding its cancer treatment systems in Orange County with the opening of a standalone outpatient facility in Newport Beach.

Local dignitaries and City of Hope leaders will christen the location, at 1601 Avocado Ave. in Newport Center, on Tuesday. The location will include an indoor/outdoor chemotherapy infusion center.

The new facility is the first phase of City of Hope’s $1-billion investment in the Newport area. The next is a full hospital campus that is expected to open next year in neighboring Irvine’s FivePoint Gateway.

Newport’s specialty team — led by lung and thoracic cancer specialist and medical oncology chair Dr. Ravi Salgia — will include regarded experts in multiple myeloma, kidney, bladder and colorectal cancers; breast surgery and aesthetic reconstruction; and patient education and cancer prevention.

City of Hope’s main campus is in Duarte in the San Gabriel Valley. It also has facilities throughout Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties, as well as a location within Orange Coast Medical Center in Fountain Valley.

The grand opening for the Newport facility starts at 10 a.m. and is open to the public. Self-guided tours of the facility will follow a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
