Fun reigns over boat parade party at Newport’s Marina Park
Kid-friendly fun during the five-evening run of the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade continued during a family night at Marina Park.
Along with the traditional procession of decorated boats, visitors to Friday’s event could enjoy crafts, dinner and an appearance by Santa Claus.
The annual Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade, running Dec. 18-22 this year, began 111 years ago and now is an economic tsunami that draws more than 150 boats and thousands of visitors who crowd restaurants and hotels, spending millions of dollars.
The parade continues through Sunday. Boats begin their 2½-hour circumnavigation of Newport Harbor at 6:30 p.m. at the tip of Lido Isle.
A fireworks show at the Balboa Pier will cap this year’s festivities at 9:05 p.m. Sunday.
