Son detained after woman is found dead at Laguna Beach home, police say
A man was detained as a “person of interest” Sunday after his mother, a woman in her 60s, was found dead at a Laguna Beach home, authorities said.
Shortly before 11 a.m., a friend who was supposed to go to church with the woman found her body and called police to the Laguna Terrace Park mobile-home community at 30802 S. Coast Hwy., the Laguna Beach Police Department said.
A homicide investigation was launched, according to police Sgt. Jim Cota. Detectives said officers found signs of “potential foul play” at the scene, and social media users who said they live nearby reported hearing screaming coming from the home.
The person of interest, who police described as the woman’s son, was found and detained in San Clemente. Police said they believe he was either involved in the woman’s death or knows what happened to her. Neither he nor the woman was identified by name.
It’s unclear how the woman died. No further details were immediately available.
