Sounding Off: Laguna traffic now like L.A.’s

Have you tried to drive through the [Laguna] canyon during rush hour? Bumper-to-bumper traffic now often takes about 20 minutes to get from Pacific Coast Highway to El Toro Road. Traffic has increased due to new homes (with more coming) and the fact that there are very few ways to get inland from PCH, not to mention the summer beach and festival visitors. Highway 133 has got to be expanded to two lanes each way all the way from PCH to El Toro to get rid of the bottleneck.

When I talked to the city manager several months ago, he said they looked at it 20 years ago, but some of the canyon property owners opposed it and traffic really hasn’t increased. He also said the upcoming changes to the El Toro intersection would help a lot. Does anyone really believe that?

Let’s do something, City Council. We didn’t move here to get stuck in L.A .traffic congestion.
