Writing inventors to speak Sunday

Bob and Nancy Schaefer of Santa Ana will discuss how they create written languages and translate the Bible into those languages at 3 p.m. Sunday at Church by the Sea, 468 Legion St., Laguna Beach.

The Schaefers work to translate some of the hundreds of languages in the world that are only spoken into written form so the Bible could be translated into those languages.

They learned how to invent written languages at the Institute of Linguistics. For the past 35 years they have lived in Northern Ghana, Africa, and have been instrumental in making written languages for three different spoken-only languages, and translated the Bible for these new readers.

Now they are helping others do the same in 14 more languages.

Donate to veteran housing

Orange County Presbyterian Churches are participating in a joint effort to build a Habitat for Humanity project in San Juan Capistrano, and collecting donations to build 27 homes, 14 of which are reserved for disabled vets or surviving spouses of veterans. Opportunities to help with the building process will be announced.

To make a tax-deductible donation, write a check to “Laguna Presbyterian Church” and note that it is for the “San Juan Capistrano Habitat Build.”
