Senior Notes: Language lectures slated at Susi Q
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute will present Language, a Remarkable Human Tool lectures at the Susi Q Senior Center, 380 Third St. The lectures are from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday and May 17.
Sue Braunwald, who has 40 years of experience in child language research, will share her experiences as a child language researcher, including her collaboration as an affiliated scientist at the Max Planck institute of Evolutionary Anthropology.
Session 1 is titled “The Mystery of Human Language;” Session 2 covers “From Baby Talk to Language.” This is a fee-based presentation. For more information, call (949) 497-2441.
French cooking topic of program
Sylvain Touagi, a world traveler, chef, connoisseur and local businessman will present an Osher Lifelong Learning Institute program, “A Taste Of French Cooking,” from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and May 19 at the Susi Q Senior Center. For fee information, call (949) 497-2441.
Estate planning scams revealed
The Office on Aging will present a program on Senior Fraud Prevention, “Taking Charge: The Rewards and Risks of Estate Planning,” from 10 to 11:30 a.m. May 20 at the Susi Q Senior Center.
This free program, presented by attorney Darlynn Morgan of Morgan Law Group, is designed to present facts about estate planning scams to senior citizens so they can evaluate and make informed decisions about proposals they may encounter.
In addition to a personalized presentation, a video issued by the California State Bar will also be shown.

AARP driver safety program
An AARP Driver Safety class is being offered from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and May 14 at the Susi Q Senior Center.
This refresher course is geared especially to the safety needs of older drivers. Participants will learn safe driving strategies and defensive driving techniques.
Course participants may be eligible to receive a discount on their auto insurance premiums.
Fees are $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members.

Lunch with Bill Moyers on Fridays
Seniors are invited to have lunch and watch a video of Bill Moyers interviewing people and discussing issues from 11:45 to 12:45 p.m. the third Friday of every month at the Susi Q Senior Center, 380 Third St.
Estate planning series continues
A free lecture series by local attorney R. Lee Andersen will provide a brief summary of what is involved in estate planning for individuals with modest estates.
The series is called “Estate Planning 101: Everything you wanted to know about estate planning but were afraid to ask.”
The series is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Susi Q, 380 Third St.

Sally’s Fund expands services
Sally’s Fund has expanded transportation services for Laguna Beach seniors by making individual and group rides available to seniors who use the Community and Senior Center, according to city officials.
In the past Sally’s Fund provided rides to the senior lunch program; the expanded service will offer seniors rides to classes, programs and activities at the center in addition to the lunch.
