City manager recruiter to meet with residents

The consultant hired to find a successor to City Manager Ken Frank will host a public meeting Wednesday to hear what residents think would make the ideal replacement.

Originally scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Third Street Community Center, the meeting was switched to the City Council Chambers so it could be televised live and web-streamed, as City Council meetings are.

“The council wanted to make the information available to as many people as possible, even if they could not attend the meeting,” Frank said.

Web-streamed meetings can be reviewed on the city website www.lagunabeachcity.net.

The town hall meeting will be held in the room that Village Laguna founder Arnold Hano said should be named for Frank, who has done some of his most notable work there.

Frank is retiring at the end of November after more than 31 years as Laguna’s city manager.

Recruitment consultant Bob Murray will develop criteria for the ideal city manager from public input at the meeting.

In particular, he is interested in hearing about issues that concern residents, the personal and leadership style they would consider appropriate for a Laguna Beach city manager and the experience and personal qualities they would want Frank’s successor to have.

The town hall meeting will be held before Murray meets with the City Council or accepts resumes from candidates.
