Retail Therapy: Butterfli Me spreads its wings
Flutter in: The much-vaunted new Butterfli Me Makeup Studio opens Thursday at the Jamboree Promenade, 2646 Dupont Drive, Suite 65, Irvine. The studio will be open that day from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Visitors are invited to enjoy beverages and macarons and win a prize — perhaps lash extensions, brow extensions, makeup or a gift basket.
Butterfli Me focuses on affordable yet professional express services. Clients can order makeup styles customized to their eye color from an iPad Look Book. The studio also will offer makeup lessons, parties, lash and brow services, a mobile studio, a mobile app and more. Information: (949) 825-7272 or butterfli.me.
All that glisters: Looseleaf Theatre Co. will present free productions of Shakespeare’s controversial (and infrequently staged) “The Merchant of Venice” at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday, as well as May 30 and 31, at the Nelson Amphitheatre at Concordia University, 1530 Concordia West, Irvine. Arrive early to ensure a good seat, and bring blankets and picnic food. Information: facebook.com/LooseleafTheatreCo.
Well hello, kitty: The Irvine Spectrum Center will host the Hello Kitty Café Truck from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday in front of the center’s giant merry-go-round. The truck will sell exclusive sweets. Last year’s visit attracted hundreds of Sanrio devotees. Information: facebook.com/hellokittycafeusa.
Sugar shack: SusieCakes is opening a new store at 25473 Rancho Niguel Road, Suite B, Laguna Niguel. Stop by for the grand opening Saturday and enjoy free cupcakes from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., plus a kids’ coloring contest and a raffle to win free cake for a year. The first 25 people in line at 10 a.m. who make a purchase will receive a free SusieCakes tote bag. From Tuesday to May 30, receive 50% off a slice of cake from 5 to 7 p.m. nightly. Late is great: The old adage that there are no late-night options in Irvine is about to get shaken up. Select restaurants at Alton Square, Jeffrey Road at Alton Parkway, will be staying open until midnight from Thursdays to Saturdays through Labor Day weekend. Options will include Chronic Tacos, Mooyah burgers, Juice It Up! and Pizza:90. A kick-off party is slated for 6 p.m. to midnight May 28, when patrons can enjoy music, giveaways and specials like $1 tacos and $2 smoothies. Information: shopirvinecompany.com.
