A brown and white tabby cat named Hazel came to the shelter as a stray in October. This makes her the feline who has been at the shelter the longest — an unfortunate distinction.

It is puzzling why Hazel has yet to find a home. She is relatively young at 4 years, and those who care for her describe her as relaxed and affectionate while still maintaining independence. Weighing under 12 pounds, she is healthy and spayed.

Hazel is one of many adult cats seeking notice before being overshadowed by the kittens that typically swell the shelter’s numbers each spring.
