In a role reversal from the cartoon series, Jerry is a cat.

He is about 2 years old and weighs nearly 11 pounds, and was turned in as a stray in January — although his route to the shelter differed from most. Neighbors discovered Jerry last fall and tried unsuccessfully to locate his owner. Assuming he was an outdoor cat, they wanted to do the right thing by feeding him, gaining his confidence and taking him to a vet for grooming and neutering.

However, Jerry revealed himself to be a house cat when he kept trying to sneak inside. He is indeed very sociable, playful and affectionate. When none in the neighborhood could keep him, they determined the shelter would offer Jerry a better chance of finding an indoor home.
