Pet of the Week

Forest is a 2-year-old Akita mix, sadly surrendered to the shelter by a family when they discovered that one of their children was highly allergic.

The family describes him as very loving, happy and friendly. In his former home, Forest was accustomed to an active household with young children. He is house-trained and neutered and obeys basic commands.

Akitas can be protective, but Forest seldom barks and appears to behave well around other dogs. While his exact breed mix is unknown, Forest has relatively short legs that cause him to lumber along in bear-like fashion, suggesting something like a Corgi in his makeup. At 90 pounds, this is a big boy whose health and energy levels would benefit from a slimmer physique.
