Trend Watch: Fashion Week wraps up in town

Orange County Fashion Week has been in high gear, and the annual event finishes up this weekend in Laguna.

At 10 a.m. Saturday, a “Haute Dog N The City” catwalk will take place at Laguna Nursery, 1370 S Coast Hwy., and benefit the Greyhound Rescue Foundation.

Then at 5 p.m., Dawson Cole Fine Art, 326 Glenneyre St., will host “Haute Couture Fashion Show,” featuring emerging designers Coral Castillo, Rohini Bedi and Lily Blue.

On Sunday, Laguna Nursery/Visionscape hosts “The Global Garden Eco Exhibit” featuring fashion from kidswear designers.

The event starts at 1:30 p.m. (doors open at 1 p.m.) with guest speaker Wendy Navarro, owner of Saige Nicole’s Boutique, an online baby and toddler boutique based in Orange County.

The “Kidswear Fashion Show “ kicks off at 2 p.m. with designs from Million Polkadots and Frou Frou Company. At 3 p.m. is an exhibit by “Eco-Sustainable Designers” and “Sweet Treats.” Rounding out the last day is Ruben Flores of Laguna Nursery, who will speak at 4 p.m. on the topic of “Plant a Seed of Good.”

Easter brunches at two local spots

Easter is just around the corner, and two local restaurants are gearing up for the holiday with special brunches.

Sapphire Laguna will offer a special Easter brunch by Chef Azmin Ghahreman on March 31. The special brunch will feature a three-course meal that includes “a variety of brunch favorites infused with Sapphire’s signature international flair,” according to a news release.

The brunch begins with a local halibut ceviche, with a choice of entree (options include eggs Benedict and Clementine and almond French toast as well as others).

Guests can finish out the brunch with several dessert choices, including lemon shortbread or tiramisu verrine.

The brunch is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $45 for adults, excluding tax and gratuity, and $22.50 for children 12 and younger (meal includes a half portion of the three courses).

And Rock ‘N Fish also will host an Easter Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will feature several offerings including huevos rancheros — eggs topped with melted pepper jack cheese and sour cream on a crisp flour tortilla — and the restaurant’s breakfast scramble — three eggs scrambled with Swiss cheese and served with breakfast potatoes.

Guests can also enjoy the Fireworks Bloody Mary featuring Rock ‘N Fish’s homemade Bloody Mary mix , a traditional or blood orange mimosa, or espresso drink.

The brunch items are $18.95, and the specialty drinks range from $3.95 to $9. Children 10 and younger can get French toast, scrambled eggs and bacon for $12.95.
