Memorial for makeup artist

A memorial service for the late Joy Trent, the longtime Pageant of the Masters makeup director, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Oct. 1 in the Forum Theater at the Festival of the Arts grounds, 650 Laguna Canyon Road, Festival officials said in a news release.

Trent died of lung cancer Sept. 16 at Mission Hospital Mission Viejo, said Sharbie Higuchi, spokeswoman for the Festival. She was 70.

“We have the utmost respect and admiration for Joy, who continued to work heroically throughout her two-year illness,” Pageant of the Masters Director Diane Challis Davy said in a prepared statement. “We are so very grateful for her friendship, camaraderie, and her countless creative contributions to the Pageant.”

Born in Dayton, Ohio, on Jan. 24, 1941, Trent first volunteered at the Pageant of Masters in 1976. According to the release, she earned a certificate in theatrical, TV and motion picture makeup in 1981. She served the Pageant as a makeup supervisor from 1986 till 1989, and became its makeup director in 1990.

Trent moved recently to Laguna Hills from Laguna Niguel, where she had lived a long time. She is survived by her two daughters, Carrie Carter and Shana Padilla, and five grandchildren, the release said.

Councilwoman’s firm to consult playhouse

The Laguna Playhouse has picked a marketing firm run by Laguna Beach Councilwoman and former Mayor Elizabeth Pearson as a consultant for its 90th anniversary community outreach and fundraising campaign, playhouse officials said in a news release.

Pearson, also a former member of the city’s Planning Commission, is the principal of Adworx, a Laguna-based marketing, advertising and public relations firm. She previously sat on the Laguna Art Museum’s Board of Directors and is an ex-officio board member for Laguna Beach Live! As well as the Laguna Plein Air Painters Assn.

The release noted that Pearson will be required to recuse herself from future City Council votes to do with the playhouse or the Business Improvement District’s annual grants earmarked for the city’s troika of main art institutions.

Dance Festival lineup is set

The Laguna Dance Festival has released its Spring 2012 schedule.

The festival’s seventh season, to be staged at the Laguna Playhouse, will feature River North Dance Chicago on April 12, BalletX on April 13, An Evening with the Stars of Dance on April 14 and 15, and the Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and Alonzo King LINES Ballet on Sept. 8 and 9, Laguna Dance Festival officials said in a news release.

“During the next 12 months, we will bring amazing dance to Orange County, and we hope that everyone who loves dance will come out to support the season,” Jodie Gates, the festival’s founder and artistic director, said in a prepared statement.

RenÈe Bondi to play in Laguna

Christian singer RenÈe Bondi, of San Juan Capistrano, will perform songs from her new album “Mercies in Disguise,” at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Laguna Presbyterian Church, 415 Forest Ave., Laguna Beach.

Her sixth album is due out in October, church officials said in a news release.

“I am thrilled at the opportunity to debut songs from my new album in Laguna Presbyterian Church’s newly restored sanctuary,” Bondi said in a prepared statement.

The event is free of charge, but church officials would appreciate a $10-offering per person or a $25-offering per family.
