Beards win by a whisker in Costa Mesa contests

A two-day American roots music showcase over the weekend featured rockabilly bands and contests for best mustache, beard and hairstyles at the Orange County Market Place swap meet at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa.

Humberto Ramos of Costa Mesa won first place for best natural beard and best natural mustache, receiving trophy mugs, ribbons and a variety of prizes from Suavecito Pomade and Traveler Beer Co.

Both days offered free haircuts and mustache kits.
