Local author Jim Wood will speak about his new memoir, “What a Trip! A Mostly Positive Life Story,” at Molly Wood Garden Design in Costa Mesa on Oct. 18.

Wood’s book — dubbed the “‘Eat, Pray, Love’ for guys” — reflects on his life in Newport Harbor and recounts his many adventures traveling across the country and through the Tibetan Plateau, Africa, Mongolia, Patagonia, Cuba, Iraq, Russia, Jamaica and China, according to a news release.

Wood lived in the Newport Harbor area for 40 years. He was a columnist for The Daily Pilot, co-owner of Coast Magazine — which was eventually sold to the Orange County Register — and writer for OC Metro and other publications. He now lives in Northern California, where he runs Marin Magazine.

The event will be held at 3:30 at the design showroom, which is owned by Wood’s daughter, at 1660 Orange Ave. The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are requested since space is limited. Email [email protected].
