Urban Decay and Vogue invited guests to a private cocktail event celebrating the cosmetic line’s new “Naked Smoky” eyeshadow palette July 9 at the Urban Decay flagship store at Fashion Island, Newport Beach.

“Naked Smoky” features nine brand-new shades and three colors to mix metallics, browns and pastel pinks.

The product, priced at $54, sold out online and in July 8 but it has since been restocked.

“It’s so exciting to see the energy here,” Wende Zomnir, Urban Decay founding partner and chief creative officer, said as she met customers and members of the beauty and fashion magazine industry. “I love a super smoky eye, and I wanted to create something that was feminine, but dangerous and fun. It’s edgier.”

Urban Decay was founded nearly 20 years ago when Sandy Lerner, co-founder of Cisco Systems, wanted an alternative to her makeup tastes.

Lerner’s business manager David Soward introduced her to Zomnir who began mixing nail polish in her Laguna Beach home.

The brand was launched in 1996 and was later acquired by L’Oreal in 2012. The makeup is sold online and in retailers such as Sephora, Ulta and Macy’s.
