Friends of the Libraries: Show support for library renovation
A meeting to discuss the feasibility of expanding Costa Mesa library space by converting the Neighborhood Community Center will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. April 16 in the center, 1845 Park Ave. It is important that residents from all parts of Costa Mesa attend.
Plans call for a larger children’s section away from the adult area, a teen section, study and tutoring rooms and meeting space. So if you want your children — and grandchildren — to enjoy these newer services, show your support. Let’s not let another generation of Costa Mesans go without these modern library services.
I would like to remind you again of the passport service at the Dungan Library, 1850 Park Ave.. It is available from 3 to 7 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. A Friends of the Library member has been volunteering for six years and has taken photos of 1,200 people — working just two hours a week.
This will be my last column about our Costa Mesa libraries for the Daily Pilot. Please support our libraries. You can do it by becoming a member of the Friends of the Costa Mesa Libraries, by donating gently used books or by volunteering.

At the Donald Dungan Library
April is National Poetry Month, and to celebrate that, a zine/poetry workshop will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday. A zine is like a personal magazine. Attend this workshop to understand how you might produce one.
National Library Week is in April also. To celebrate, an informal presentation on the libraries of our nation will be held at 2 p.m. April 15.
Continuing with the Swedish Film Club and films by Ingmar Bergman, “Cries and Whispers” will be shown April 14 and “Autumn Sonata” on April 21 (both at 6:30 p.m.), and “Fanny and Alexander” will be shown April 28 at 5:30 p.m.
Family Film Club, held Thursdays at 3:30 p.m., will feature the following films this month: “The Fox and the Hound” on April 16, “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” on April 23, and “A Bug’s Life” on April 30.
Find out what a steel drum from Trinidad looks and sounds like during a presentation at 6:30 p.m. April 20.
Bring your children to read to therapy dogs on at 11 a.m. Saturday. On Mondays at 11 a.m., they can enjoy Toddler Storytime. Tuesdays from 2 to 5 p.m. is “Duplo Day.” Family Storytime is held on Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
The Bilingual Conversation Group meets at 6 p.m. Thursdays, and Bilingual Digital Storytime will meet at noon April 19.

At the Mesa Verde Library
Canine Reading Time is held the last Saturday of the month from 2 to 3 p.m. Bring your children to read to these special dogs.
The Friends of the Costa Mesa Libraries Book Club meets the third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m., and continuing with the dog theme, the next two books are “What the Dog Saw” by Malcolm Gladwell (in April) and “Rin Tin Tin: The Life and the Legend” by Susan Orlean.
Preschool Storytime is held on Tuesdays from 11 to 11:30 a.m., followed immediately by Preschool Craftivity.
Afternoon Storytime is held on Wednesdays from 2 to 2:30 p.m., followed by Craftivity from 2:30 to 3 p.m.
And Lego Monday is held from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

At the Costa Mesa Technology Library
A workshop will be held at 6 p.m. April 16 to help families navigate the college admissions and financial aid process.
This session will provide an overview of BigFutureT, a comprehensive, student-centered and interactive college planning website.
A second workshop, on key changes of the redesigned SAT and PSAT, will be held at 6 p.m. April 30.
Workshops on basic computer skills continue to be held Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 5 p.m.
