Divorce not only causes human heartache but can lead to animals losing their homes.

When families separate, affordable, pet-friendly housing can become an issue, and long work hours can cause the family pets distress and lead them to become destructive.

Sweet Pea’s family divorced, and she was to be sent to the shelter before their attorney intervened to help her. Life has been full of change lately for Sweet Pea, and Community Animal Network looks forward to finding her a new home soon.

This little cat has to be where the people are, perhaps to rest her chin affectionately. She is shiny black with a distinctive white star that is barely visible on her chest unless she is sitting up.

Sweet Pea likes to burrow under bed covers and sleep next to a human, if she’s invited. Her playful side shows when a toy mouse is tossed. Her predatory skills take charge, and she will grab the mouse with her mouth and paws and kick it with her hind legs.

Kittens can be seen at the Fashion Island pet adoption event sponsored by Russo’s Pet Experience from noon to 4 p.m. weekends. See photos of available animals at https://www.animalnetwork.org.

The kitten trapping and altering program desperately needs funding. Donations can be made to Community Animal Network, P.O. Box 8662, Newport Beach, CA 92658. Memo: “spay/neuter.” Tax ID 33-0971560.
