Algerian War Vet at UCI

Saadi Yacef, a former commander in Algeria’s National Liberation Front, which fought France in the 1950s and early 60s, and who produced and acted in Gillo Pontecorvo’s 1966 classic war film, “The Battle of Algiers,” will take part in a discussion after a screening of the film. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place from 5 to 6:20 p.m. in room 100 of the Humanities Instructional Building at UCI, following a 3 to 5 p.m. screening of “The Battle of Algiers.”

Bobby V. Visits Newport

Deadline approaching

The deadline for the “What I have to be Thankful for” contest on Facebook, sponsored by Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort, is fast approaching. Grade school students can submit entries for the Thanksgiving-themed contest for a chance to win prizes, including $1,000 in U.S. Savings Bonds, meals at Back Bay Bistro, and passes to the Moe B.
