Dance festival to bring performers from Havana and San Francisco
The Malpaso Dance Company from Havana and the Alonzo King Lines Ballet from San Francisco will give two performances each from Sept. 10 to 13 as part of the Laguna Dance Festival.
The fall festival’s 11th year will also include a free Art Walk presentation of Southern California choreographers and dancers on Sept. 3 and master classes Sept. 5, 6, 12 and 13.
“With the recent detente between the United States and Cuba, we saw an opportunity to introduce this energetic troupe to Southern California audiences,” said festival artistic director Jodie Gates in a statement. “This, its first performance in the western region of North America, is an exciting opportunity for everyone involved.”
All stage performances will be held at Laguna Playhouse. Tickets will go on sale on May 29.
